Speedo is WAY off.....

Well one more problem to my list so far lol.

I took the car around the block and still seems to be a few issues but the obvious one is the speedo. I was probably going 20mph or so yet my speedo showed I was going at/over 80mph.

Car is a 94 that someone put a 97 drivetrain into. The VSS is still the 97 style but swapped out the harness connector to fit it from the 94 style.

Also off subject from the title but where would all the grounds be on a 94 z28 that would need to be checked and/or cleaned? I know where a handful of them are but I know there are others.

Thanks

Without know all the details (like what was the stock trans/rear vs. what is in there now), you might need a computer reprogram.

Was the old tranny an M6 and the new one an A4? That would explain a part of the huge error, since the A4 (40 pulses/rev) puts out 2.5X as many pulses per driveshaft revolution as the M6 (16 pulse/rev). But even that's not enough to explain a speedo that reads 4X actual speed.

Yeah, I am not sure what was in the car originally as I bought it with the drivetrain thats in it. Is there a way to figure that out cause if so I will find that out so I know which direction to go on how to fix it.

It has 3.23 gears in it now but thats all I know as I couldn't say if it was originally an auto or not. The previous owners description of the computer was "94 4L60-E programmed PCM".

So the VSS wouldn't throw it that much out of wack?

Thanks!

RPO codes on the car will tell you what trans and rear gears it came with, but you would not be able to tell if the computer was altered without a program dump.

So, now we know you have 3.23 gears, but what transmission?

It's an auto 4l60e transmission that is new as well.

The odometer must be racking up the miles like crazy...... 1,000 miles to the tank.

lol yeah if I could only drive it that long.

Would it be easier to find a 94 A4 computer to replace mine with?

My PCM has marker writing on it saying "'94 M6 LT1". The previous owner says he programmed it for a 4l60e but gave no exact answers to what was programmed.

Update

Well found some new codes.

#1 is 66 which is the A/C pressure sensor which I am missing right now so that is an easy fix.

This one kind of baffles me though.

Code 91 which is the shift light fault or from shoeboxs site the Skip shift lamp circuit. Well from my searching around this is a code that is going to show up on M6 cars but I could be wrong. I just couldn't find a post where this code was involved with an auto.

If that is the case then my PCM is not programmed correctly to run an A4 car and needs to be changed out I would assume?

Looks like you need to find out what is programmed in the PCM.

What would be the best way to find out what is programmed into the current PCM?

Buy a tuning program and cable or send it to someone to have them look at it.
