Speedo inop.

kinda wierd thing happened, the speedo works intermittingly. noticed it yesterday on a drive. all the other gauges work fine i was cruisin around 55 (i guess) and the speedo was on 0. then this morning it was working. this afternoon it wasnt...

anyone know why this would happen, could it just be wearing out?

Speedo is driven by the VSS sensor on the tailshaft of the tranny housing, via the PCM. Do you have an SES light or a code for a VSS fault?

If it was all the guages I'd say it was the alternator about to die, make sure it's just the speedo, cause when my guages started to do that it died in the next couple of days.

theres no light or speed sensor code. not the alt., all my gauges died before but from a blown fuse. all the gauges work fine, just the speedo working, then not workin at all. its worked so far today, we'll see bout this afternoon...

Does the odometer stop when the speedo stops?

If the odometer keeps racking up miles, when the speedo is pointing to "0", the fault has to be in the panel. The PCM is sending the same signal to the speedo/odo, so the panel has to be getting the signal, if the odometer is ticking over. Swap in a panel from a junk yard. You can have a dealer adjust the miles on the odometer.
