Speed reading

how does the speedometer in a 2000 camaro with the 3800 read the speed? is it measured off the transmission? is it a digital signal? does anyone know who makes an aftermarket speedo that would be compatible with a 00 camaro v6?

Re: Speed reading

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is located on the tailshaft of the tranny. It sends pulses to the PCM. The PCM processes the pulse rate, based on values programmed in the PCM for tire diameter and rear axle ratio, and sends a signal to the speedometer.

Dakota Digital makes an interface that will handle a wide range of signal/speedo interfaces.
