skip shift light

This may sound like I'm stupid but here goes.
I have a 2000 SS, M6.
That annoying skip shift light that comes on when I take off from a stop, but not always. What I have read seams to tell me that when this light is on it will go straight to 4th, mine doesn't. I can shift into any gear I want. Does this mean I may have an eliminator hook up. If so how do I get rid of this annoying light.

Thanks

Re: skip shift light

When I got my new computer tuned and the skip shift disabled my light didn't come on anymore.

A tune is the only way to get rid of the light.

Re: skip shift light

Take the gauge cluster apart and rip out the offending light, or get a wiring diagram and figure out which wire goes to the light, then snip it.

from the link above: "The following is THE way IMO to eliminate the Skip Shift "feature" on 94 and 95 F-Bodies. Unfortunately, this method only works on 94 and 95 models which are the OBD-I type. This will throw an SES light if done on an OBD-II F-Body; the 96+."

EDIT: I know this thread was somewhat revived by Racafella13, but someone may search and overlook the fact that this is not for OBDII cars.

The quote you have above is for eliminating the skip shift ITSELF. I do believe that you can eliminate the light as described in that link for an OBDII car as well without the SES light coming on. I'm not 100% sure of this but the good thing is that if anybody wants to try it and it doesn't work, you take the 2 minutes necessary and just plug the wire back in

Somebody give this a shot and report back please!
