Fan ?

I have a 98 SS and everytime i start the car i hear this winding noise. It starts to get a higher pitch then drops to a lower pitch at idle and only lasts for about 2min. Im thinking my fan motor is goin. Any other opinions?

Re: Fan ?

Since it only lasts about 2 min you sure it's not the air pump coming on? You can pull the fuse (it'll throw a code, but go off after a few cycles) and see if the noise stops. Just something to try.

Re: Fan ?

Ok i just pulled the fuse to it and it didnt make any noise so that was the problem. What do i do to fix or is that just the normal sound. Which would be kinda weird if it was normal.

Re: Fan ?

options:
replace the pump...
keep the fuse out and deal with the SES...
remove the pump and have it tuned out of the ECM so you don't deal with the light

Re: Fan ?

I'd give it a few more cold starts just to be sure. The pump shouldn't be loud/whistling sould hardly be noticeable. Here's a link if you decide to yank it: http://www.ls1camaro.net/sections.ph...ticle&artid=70

Re: Fan ?

BTW, it won't hurt you to run around with the fuse out, even when it illuminates the SES light.
