service engine light? should i be worried?

well last night i was driving home to san antonio from austin, and it was pouring, everyone was going about 40-50mph on the highway, there were deep puddles here and there etc, and all of a sudden my service engine soon light came on about 15-20 min into the drive, and 4-5 times i would be driving in 4th or 5th gear and my car would kind of hop forward for a sec then hop back, my car is lowered and i dont have my flywheel coverplate on. so im thinknig maybe some water go in there?? or soemthing? maybe the distributor? i havent checked today to see if my light is still on, im having starter problems and dont feel like messin w it right now, do u think i should be worried, ?? do you think i need to put that coverplate back on?, what do u think the prob could be? any help is appreciated, thanks guys

hopefully after your car dries out it will be ok. I made that exact same drive many, many times when I used to live in SA. My car ran like *** in heavy rain......eventually the opti crapped out.

good luck

You can still scan it.... the code that set the SES light stays stored in the PCM for a while. Since you have another thread going about a stutter off idle and during the initial stages of acceleration, it would seem logical that the SES light might be related to your problem, and finding the cause for the light might help you find your problem.
