Security problem?

94 z28. I havent started it in months, i went to start it today and i get nothing. I turn the key over and none of the dash lights come on i.e. low trac, security, and such. All i get is a binging sound coming from the steering wheel/guage area. Is this a security problem or just a really dead battery?

I'd check the battery voltage first.

Will do. But just thought id get some options first. Im going to have it tested here in a bit but the binging noise is what is getting me since i have had dead batteries before in this car and never have i heard that sound from that area.

What did the volt meter on the dash read when you turned the key to "on"? What did it read when you turned the key to "start"?

Security system isn't the issue if you have no dash/gauge lights. The car will function normally with a security fault with the exception of a flashing security light.

Check available battery voltage to make sure you have any. After that you can start looking at available voltage at specific fuses which will tell you if the IGN switch is sending correct power through to the system.
