my security light went on the other day and the next day the car would not start. so i checked the battery, alt. and starter, all were fine. I reinstalled everything and the car would not turn over. all the time, the security light still flashing. i have researched was to bypass the security system, but has anyone actually done this????

The wire is broken that goes to the key cylinder in the colunm. It is a common problem for these cars.

Order a new lock cylinder and key. They(or you) will need to test the resistance of the key pellet to make sure the new one matches. Shoebox has a chart on his site of all the possible values. You will need a steerign wheel puller and a lockplate compressor to do this.

remove the negative battery cable and pull the airbag fuse.

remove the airbag (4 screws)

pull the steering wheel (one nut)

remove the airbag coil (snap-ring)

remove the lock plate (one C-clip)

remove the horn ring and bearing spring (slides right off)

remove the hazard switch (one screw)

remove the turn signal clip (one screw)

remove the turn signal switch (three screws)

remove the key buzzer (needle nose plyers, pulls strait out)

remove the lock cylinder (one screw and it slides out)

It is a PITA to route the VATS wire from the lock cylinder to the connector under the dash. I suggest cutting the old one to get it out and running the new one as best you can.

be carefull of the airbag coil. it needs to be properly centered. Be very carefull not to turn the inside ring after removing it. If you do, you will need to research the procedure to get it strait again. Just let me know, I can help if needed. I've done it a few times.
