My Security light just randomly came on in my 95 z28 camaro. sometimes it will go off other times it will stay on. ive had the car for almost a year and this is the 1st time it has came on. how do i keep it form coming on i know very little about cars so i need as much info as possible. i do not have the remote to lock or unlock the doors if that means anything.

It may be due to a problem with the ignition cylinder reading the resistance of the pellet in the key. Key may need to be cleaned, cylinder may need to be cleaned. Maybe a loose wire.

The security light is coming on becuase the Vats computer queries the key every so many seconds or minutes. It is detecting the resistance is not what it is looking for and throws a light. It wont shut the car off but when you shut it off.....it may not restart if the condition is still present. I would check the wiring at the lock cylinder under the wheel if that cylinder has never been replaced. The wiring is probably starting to break and it wont be long till your stranded.
