sb2.2 crowd, inside please...

Right now I'm building my '94's 383 up to be more of a racey street engine. This will be the last time its apart and it will end up my weekend cruiser for awhile since I have a LT1 in my '86 iroc I can drive. So this brings up my questions:

I want to build a sb2 or 2.2 street strip engine. I decided since my '94 is about done that is wasnt worth stripping the car halfway down and rebuilding it again for that; instead, I've decided to find another 4thgen rolling chassis to build myself. I've built these things from scratch before, piece of cake.

Small block chevy engines are too easy to build to me. Been working under a hood since 4 and have been building engines since I was 10 (not well at first...lol). So I'm not new to a small block. Pretty sure Bret has me beat by alot tho BUT the sb2.2 is new territory to me. My new engine for my new car will be a ground up project based on my LT1 EFI conversion to an aftermarket block. Im in the cost analysis phase and need a few pointers to get things right.

Here's the basic plan. 454 ci, dart little M, sb2.2 heads, single plane intake, converted hooker LT headers to stahl pattern (recoated) or custom built headers based on the hooker design built by me. solid roller camshaft with custom cam. shift points at 6800. monoblade throttle body. HUGE injectors (not sure on size as of yet, over 60#/hr), in line fuel pump, jesel shaft mount rocker arms.

I'm assuming that I could drop in some of GMPP's new roller lifter guide sleeves in place of linkbar lifters with some minor work? I would trust those more than linkbar's...had a buddy junk a fresh motor thanks to linkbars crapping out.

What pushrod size and length do you run? I understand that for a motor of this caliber I would get a length checker to properly check the length, but I dont even know where to start lol. This is assuming a .040" quench and 9.025" deck. I may consider a tall deck if I dont see any fitment issues with the engine compartment or hood. I'll have a cowl anyway.

I havent seen much as far as sb2.2's installed in 4thgen engine compartments. How well do the intakes fit around the cowl?

Since I never drove a rediculously fast 4thgen M6 car before, I'm assuming it's a PITA to drive and perhaps I should upgrade. I do have a 4L80-E that I could use even though it's a friggin behemoth but I doubt it would break (that often). The rest of the driveline would be fine since I would be installing an S60 rear end behind it. I have a 12 bolt lined up for my '94 now, but if that falls through, I may put a dana 44 IRS I have in it and spend the cash on the 60 for the new car. I'm worried about consistency and driveability with the M6. Any of you have M6 sb2.2's?

I've noticed some of you run CR's upwards of 16:1. I'm assuming that's race fuel? I want to limit it to what I usually consider the limit for aluminum head EFI street motors, 12:1. I'd like to go higher but I dont think I can safely do it. This is a racier engine, but I want to keep it streetable; otherwise I'd jack up the cam, toss on a carb and wind that **** up lol.

here's the kicker...mileage? *cringes* just curious.

I'm assuming they typically make too much power for the average k-member to support?

That's enough to get me going on my plans here. I wont be in any hurry to build this engine. Just trying to clear up some info so I know more about how much this thing is gonna cost me. Thanks 4 ur time guys!

You don't seriously believe there's a "crowd" of people running those heads.....

Do a "search".... several threads on Advanced Tech. Look for posts by N2ODave..... he's gone as far as anyone.

maybe a small one...two's company, three's a crowd! lol

I did a search but didnt find what I was looking for really...maybe time to change up some words in my search.

Just looking to see how broke I'll be after building my next toy from scratch so I can start planning and shopping.
