Safe to drive with Fuel Stabilizer?
Safe to drive with Fuel Stabilizer?
Hi guys...
I added some fuel stabilizer to my tank back in October, and I was wondering if it was safe to drive it... Or should I try to syphon the gas out, and replace it with fresh???
(A mechanic mentioned to me that these cars are built with anti-syphon protection... don't know if I believe him though..)

Re: Safe to drive with Fuel Stabilizer?
I don't see why not . . . I mean if you couldn't what's the point of adding it before you store it for the winter? If you have to drain the tank with the stabilizer in it, why bother adding it in the first place and just drain the old fuel in the spring.
But I could be completely, just saying what I'm thinking.

Re: Safe to drive with Fuel Stabilizer?
I'd run it, but as soon as it's 5 gallons low, top it with fresh premium, then run it extra low before the next few fillups to help purge.
I've actually used MUCH older gas than that, I just add a quarter tank of new gas before even trying to start.

Re: Safe to drive with Fuel Stabilizer?
next time drain the tank dude. no sense in risking damage to the O2 sensors, cat, etc by running that stuff through. now at $30+ per tank i wouldn't blame you if you ran it on through this time.
Re: Safe to drive with Fuel Stabilizer?
Two years in a row now used fuel stabilizer as directed. I use the STP stuff do not use the Crappy Tire stuff as it will seperate in the cold and it will not mix back together and stay clear. A friend told me this after I had bought some so I bought STP usede it and left the carppy Tire stuff on the shelf. Sure enough leaving the bottle on the shelf in the garage it seperated into two distinct layers.
When I bring the car back out I burn off almost the complete tank before I fill it back up and also just drive it nice for that first tank I don't get on it too much until I have a fresh tank of gas,, probably over kill.
I do not think any harm will come from using it to anything in fact I wouldn't park my car for the winter without it,, no gum/varnish for me please. I usually run it for at least twenty minutes before I park it for the winter too.
P.S. my winters are Part of October, November, December, January, February, March, April and even part of May. Sucks to be me
