?'s about Manual Fan switch and low thermostat

i did a search on this and came to be more confussed than before

1) on the manual fan switch you can turn the fans on and off when you want to, but will they still kick on automaticlly from the factory settings?
2) i also read that they were saying once you put the lower thermostate that there is now need for the fan switch?
3) do you need to have the computer retuned for it to work?
4) is there any drawbacks to doing this mod?

thanks in advance,
mike

with the switch from SLP, in the OFF postition the fans work according to the computer settings (factory or retuned). not sure how DIY switches work.

a low temp stat will not change how cool your car runs when you are NOT MOVING...since no air is going over the radiator. for track use or HEAVY traffic a fan switch is beneficial IN CONJUNCTION with a lower stat to keep the temps down and power up.

no need for a retune. the factory setting will prevent damage from overheating whether you have a fan switch OR a 160 stat. but switch will benefit you when you are at the track or in traffic. a tune can do the same thing. but the switch can help cool the engine when the car is not running.

many people say a retune is needed to gain anything from a stat...UNTRUE! in normal driving the fans are not on siince air is going over the radiator. but in traffic the retune will help keep temps down. but it ISN'T NECCESSARY. a fan switch can do the similar thing.

yes...VERY WORTH IT...cheaper than a tune!

drawback:

leaving the fans on and draining the battery QUICK!

drawbacks to a retune:

having the fans on even in mild traffic...and wearing the fans out...and not noticing and having an overheating problem with NO FANS!
