Running slick all the time

I know that when you run a set of drag slicks you heat them up to make them sticky. I only drive the a few 1000 miles a year so if i left them on all the time would a get good traction even on the street. If im at a red light and gun it will i get good traction as opposed to regular street tires. I spin the tires with 1/2 throttle all the time so i would like to improve it a little. I would love to have 4:10 but if i can't get any traction it would be a waste.

I would try to find a compromise with a good street tire. Slicks are in no way designed for regular street use, even if you drive a small amount of miles each year.

Whats the best traction tire available. My Toyo's are not up to par. I have a pair of Goodyear G1's that came with the car but never ran them.

The closest thing would be the MT Et Streets, but they aren't really recommended for highway use and they are tubed.

I would go with the Mt drag radials.

Slicks, and drag radials are always "sticky".... at least sticky enough to pick up every stone and grain of sand on the road and throw it into your quarter panels. Very limited puncture resistance, non-radials are not compatible with radial front tires, zero traction in wet, no sidewall stability to assist with cornering...... not a good idea on the street.

My BFG Drag Radials seem to be better for the street than my ET Drags, as far as traction goes.

I've driven around on my BFG DR's and they work awesome on the street! I was shocked, but they actually hook up good even on wet pavement!! And NO, they don't need to be heated up first to work.

One of my friends drives around all the time on his slicks, he has no problems with it, and he even lives on a dirt road. The only problem he has is one of the rims leak so he has to add air about every week or so

I've got BFG Dr's in the rear and they hook up great on the street. They do pick up more debris and they don't last as long as street tires, but I think that the great traction outweighs it. They were also the cheapest tire in the size I was looking for. 315/30/18. There is a limited selection of tires once you get that wide and 18"+ rims.

Nitto Drag Radials. I use them on the street from mid-April thru mid-November. Good street manners, OK in the rain, decent traction at the strip, and unlike the others, you can get 10K miles from them. A good compromise IMO.

What size works best? I was thinking of buying a couple rims but have no idea what the best ones would be. I know my teenage son would love to see a set on there all the time.

There's one in every bunch. That's just stupid. These things aren't DOT rated for a reason. Let someone pull out in front of him and see what happens.

255/50/16 work perfect on the factory 16 x 8's . More than enough tire for a mild F-body .

+1

If you want the Nittos, however, they only come in 245/50-16 (which is what I have). If you move up to 17" rims (which were stock on some cars, I bet someone is selling a set for cheap), then 275/40-17 is a good choice.

Actually I looked at them yesterday and they werent slicks but MT ET Streets, which in my book are basically the same.
