Replaceing fuel filter (questions)
Replaceing fuel filter (questions)
I think its time to replace the fuel filter asap, i have an 84' its only been mine for 2 years now but in that time i havent replaced it and i dont know when the last time it was if ever, its starting to feel real sluggish and doesnt want to fire up sometimes now also, just spinning but getting no gas if i leave it sit a few hours itll start right up, so im going to replace it and see what happens.
My questions are, where exactly is it located, i know its on the bottom of the car but instead of trying to follow the gasline the whole way from the tank to the front (im pretty sure its somewhere up front) i figured id ask to get a general idea to start out at.
Also, is it required to get the car on a lift or could i just get it high enough off the ground to get a creeper under it?
Finally, a buddy was saying they make "high preformance" filters, what exactly is the difference in them and regular autozone bought filters and is it worth the extra money? I didnt even know they existed until he told me they did, so can anyone confirm they even exist? thanks...

Re: Replaceing fuel filter (questions)
One my buddy's 87 Trans Am it's in front of the back wheel on the driver side if I remember correctly. We changed it by just jacking it up. Yeah they make high performance filters, I've never used one, but it couldn't hurt. You've done a lot of work to your car from your sig so it might be worth the extra cash. I think you can even get ones that you can clean, I may be wrong about it.
Re: Replaceing fuel filter (questions)
Thanks man, if i can find one that i can clean that would be real nice.. as it sits over the winter and i believe thats when the corrosion and other stuff builds up in the filter after sitting awile.. that would solve my problem all together and a few bucks at the same time

Why don't you just leave? Whether it's true or not, enough people believe that it's true that you're never going to get any credibility or respect on this board.

Re: Replaceing fuel filter (questions)
I've never heard of a "high preformance" fuel filter, although i did replace my stock corroded one with a nice thick glass one so you can see right into the filter part and see whats going on, it said on the box its "lifelong" guess ill find out
Re: Replaceing fuel filter (questions)
if the car has a Rochester Quadrajet carb then the fuel finter will be in the carb where the fuel line goes in. what i have done to my 1986 Z28 Camaro was bought a 3/8" fuel fittings from carquest, a stright and a 90 degree fittings and got 3/8" fuel like and a chromed fuel filter with a reusable element in it so it can get better fuel flow over stock. also if its a quadrajet the stock fuel filters are made out of paper.
