Removing power steering but NOT AC question.
Removing power steering but NOT AC question.
Okay, I'm one of those wierdos who can't live w/o AC... you can strip everything else from my car but coooold coold air needs to blow on my face in summer. I also goto Florida a lot.. so... being without AC is really not an option.
I would like to dump PS when I put my BMR K member in next week. Can the pump just be removed and belt routing changed ... or am I going to need something custom here?
Did a lot of searching and only found people dumping the AC but keeping the PS and/or people relocating the alternator.

Re: Removing power steering but NOT AC question.
not everyones a wuss and can move the wheel
I usually have skinnies on the thing driving it around anyway on the rare occasion I drive the car.
I just hate clutter, but can deal with clutter that keeps me from sweating on I-95 in Miami traffic on the way to Moroso.
Its looking more and more like I'm going to have to 86 AC and PS, and move the alternator downlow
Unless I can make some sort of replacment Idler for where the PS pump once was.
Ford makes these PS idlers for Mustangs (like a 80 dollar item), damnit why didnt GM or anyone else.

Re: Removing power steering but NOT AC question.
There is a bracket to do what you are looking for, kinda pricey ($200 or so) but i can't remember who makes it. Look around a little more and you will find one under Speed Inc. I think. I went ahead and did the low mount alt. bracket and love the setup for now but it's cool now too. Later clint
Re: Removing power steering but NOT AC question.
I was thinking of doing the same thing, except replacing the stock steering with a manual rack. Has anyone converted to a manual rack? with or without a/c?
Re: Removing power steering but NOT AC question.
Well thats exactly why I wanna do this, I have a BMR K-Member w/pinto mounts and I'm about to order the pinto kit from Madman. I think I found a way to accomplish this with this kit mentioned by a previous poster:

Check out my mock up i made in paint

If they'll sell me half that kit (the alternator stuff) I'd be home free. Ya its kinda ghetto running the accessory belt over the crank pulley twice, but I don't see why it wouldnt work! Also note that a AC idler would be a lot bigger than that dummy pulley they have on their mockup motor... so it might actually not touch the crank twice anyway. then I'd put the stock accessory bracket on the ole' bandsaw and die grinder and get rid of everything not needed for the AC pulley
would free up some nice space up top! ... and i'd be cooooooooool in the summer.
