Removing door glass
Removing door glass
I bought a new door for my firebird after it was damaged in a break in.
Whats the best way to remove the door glass? I want to reuse my old door glass because its already tinted with the rest of the car.

What about the door hinges.. did you have to take off the fender to adjust the door?

Yes, properly adjusting the door hinges requires removal of the fender. If you are carefull it can be done without removing the nose on a Camaro, bit I'm not sure about a Firebird.
Here are some pictures of the plastic washers / rivets / bolts:

Re: Removing door glass
Awesome.. Hey I appreciate it..
One more question if you don't mind.. How did you take off your door handles? If your roll the window all the way up can you get to them?
I'm planning on restoring my 93 (hey its 12 years old now!) Part of it is a new door, new nose.. I haven't planned on taking off the fender but I guess I can do it if i need to.

Re: Removing door glass
The door handles are held on with 2 nuts inside the door. just put the window up all the way and remove the nuts. The actuator rod is held on the handle with a plastic clip. Rotate the clip around and the rod will disengage the handle.
The lock cylinder is held in with a "C" clip on the inside. Just slide the clip off to the side and the lock cylinder will come out of its hole. It has an actuator rod connected to it also.
Go to Shoebox's website for instructions on adjusting the window so it seals properly. There are a few different places to adjust it and move it any direction. He also has great instructions there for removing and reinstalling the power window motor. With his instructions and what I have given you in this thread you should be ready to completely rebuild the door.
Shoebox also has a video I shot showing the movement of the window regulator mechanism on a door that had the outer skin cut from it. It really gives a good example of how all the parts move together.
