Rear gear question

Just wanted to know what rear gear i have, its a 97 Camaro Z-28 ss with a auto tranny. Is it a 3.23 rear? When i'm doing 30mph the rpms are about 900!

Re: Rear gear question

i think this is the right #'s for you if in your glove box has the list of options from the factory code #'s if you have a GU2 = 2.73, GU4 = 3.08, GU5 = 3.23 & GU6 = 3.42 ALSO IF THERE IS A G80 = LIMMITED SLIP REAREND

Re: Rear gear question

Thanks!

It says GU2, but the sticker is on the door jam.

I'm guessing the rear gear is still stock, if i give the car about 70% gas, the back end wants to go sideways! Sure seems the car has alot of power for a 2:73 gear.

Re: Rear gear question

If you want to double check it go to www.f-body.org/gears/ You never know, my door says GU2 but I put 3.42's in it. Check it on the highway, 30 MPH is too slow - my TC doesn't even lock until about 42.

Re: Rear gear question

Go 70 mph, and hold the tranny in 3rd gear (your 1:1 gear). Check your RPMs. If you're taching 2730, then you have 2.73s, if you're taching 3230, then you have 3.23s. It's that simple.
