I know mine doesn't kick off at all. I always have to check it and turn it off.

Re: Rear Defrost ??

From the owner's manual (nobody reads those, right? ) :
Press the right side of the switch to turn on the defogger.
An indicator light will come on to remind you that the
defogger is on. The defogger will turn off automatically
after about ten minutes of use. If you turn it on again,
the defogger will operate for about five minutes only.
You can also turn the defogger off by pressing the left
side of the switch.
Sometimes the breaker for the defogger will get tired. It tried replacing mine with a new one, but a 30A fuse restored the function to normal. This is a very common question, but most posts are in the fall when the weather firsts turn cold. Apparently, the search function does not get over-taxed on this subject.

Re: Rear Defrost ??

Sweet, I'm going to replace mine tomorrow with a 30a fuse... I was just cursing it this morning My defroster has been like that every since I bought the car. I knew it wasn't supposed to cut off after a minute or two but didn't realize it was that easy to fix.

With mine... I can turn it on and it'll stay on for maybe a minute then shut off and it wouldn't come back on for several minutes afterwards. I can press the button immediately after it shuts off and it won't light up to show its activated... but if I wait about 5 minutes before I try, then it'll come on for another minute or two and shut off.

It's going to be awful nice to actually have a rear window that I can see out of before I get to the parking lot at work

Re: Rear Defrost ??

the fuse mod worked great for me. Mine only lasted like 3 mins at most. I put a fuse in place of the circuit breaker, and mine lasted the whole 9-10 min cycle.

Re: Rear Defrost ??

It's in the dash fuse panel.

Re: Rear Defrost ??

Um, could something in the wiring/defroster grid be causing the breaker to pop early? Just a thought. Mine stays parked for the cold weather so i don't ever need the defroster.

It could be from increase resistance in the circuit, but it's too easy a fix to swap a fuse in.
