Raise The Rear
Raise The Rear
What's a cheap way to raise the rear to give my 86 trans am that old school look. I've heard about shocks that can raise and lower with a simple bike valve type thing and all you have to do is hook up a compresser to it and "blow it up" to the hieght you want. I anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
Re: Raise The Rear
The "old school" way to raise the back of a coil spring car (at least the way I did it on my 1966 GTO
) was "air shocks".... a shock with an internal bladder you could add air to. They also used "spreaders" on the spring coils, a couple brackets with bolts that could jack the coils apart - not a very good way to do it. Currently you could get a pair of the Air Lift 1000 bags that fit into the coil springs, and blow up with compressed air. Here's a picture of an Air Lift in a 4th Gen rear spring, which is the same as your 3rd Gen:

I've also found that the Eibach Drag Launch springs will raise the back end about 1/2" - makes plenty of room for 28" slicks:
