Thumbs up Racetronix Pump & Harness Installed!

I installed my Racetronix fuel pump and upgraded wire harness this weekend. It was a piece of cake and I dropped the fuel tank. I also put in the upgraded harness. It is working great. Good instructions and good quality product. I only found one or two typos in the the instructions but they were obvious and caused no issues.

I purchased the pump from Harris Speed Works in Drexel Hill PA. Nice guys! The owner, Matt, even met me in a parking lot on his way to Atco Raceway to give me the pump on Saturday mornnig. Now, that is service!

There is only one thing I don't like about the upgraded wiring harness. The fuse holder which is mounted on the back of the alternator has a plastic mounting tab which you are supposed to put under the alternator support brace bolt with a supplied lock and cut washer. It you try to tighten the bolt to where it should be, it feels like it will crush the plastic mounting tab. I think the mounting tab should be metal.

Other than that, top quality product! Thanks to Matt at Harris Speed Works for his assistance.

Was in mandatoy to drop the tank or could you do this by going through an access hole cut into the hatch area? I know you can do the pump that way just not sure about the wiring harness...

Thanks,

Re: Racetronix Pump & Harness Installed!

You don't need to drop the tank for the harness. It runs between the alternator and the bulkhead connector mounted on the body over the driver side rear axle. It never goes over the gas tank so access is no problem.

As far as replacing the fuel pump, there is a raging debate over the "right way" to do this. While it can be done by cutting a hole in the floor behind the rear seat, I chose to drop the tank. Since I plan to keep my convertible for many years, I wanted to keep the car pure. Someday if I decide to show it, I didn't want to devalue it by cutting holes in it.

Going very slowly (and enjoying myself instead of throwing wrenches around the garage!) it took about 2.5 hours to remove the tank and pump. It took me another 2 hours to put it back together again.

All in all, not a bad job.

Jeff

Yeah I have seen and actually have taken part in those debates in the past so no need to get into that in your post...

Thanks for the info though...

Re: Racetronix Pump & Harness Installed!

Any time. I should mention that I replaced the fuel pump about 80,000 miles ago with another stocker so this is my second time doing the job. I hope the Racetronix unit lasts longer than the AC Delco unit.

I agree with others who have said it is a first class kit. Racetronix even includes a paper clip to remove a pin from one of the connectors. They also included two types of fuel sender connectors depending on your application. You get absolutely everything you need even including plenty of wire ties to secure the new harness. Other companies should take notes from the makers of this kit.

I don't have the harness, just the pump but I also applaud this great product. I dropped the tank as well and it wasnt that bad of a job. All in all, everything went smoothly and within a few hours I had normal fuel pressure again!
