FTRA Question

I recently installed an FTRA on my Z28. There's one piece left over that's not talked about in the instructions. It's a rounded foam rubber piece about 17" long. There are two adhesive strips on it. I have no idea what this would be used for. My airbox is completly sealed. Where is this thing meant to go?

Re: FTRA Question

I think it's just part of the packaging - saw a post about this before somewhere - believe Phillip Reddy from Fasttoys responded and said you could cut it and use it for an emergency block off plate if desired. I tossed mine. Shoot'em an email, maybe I'm wrong - installed mine in '02.

Re: FTRA Question

it's not the piece that goes in the intake slot on the front of the airbox?

something with tape on it doesn't sound like extra packing.

how thick is it?

Re: FTRA Question

The material is maybe 1/2" thick, but it's formed into a "U" lengthwise. Along the length of the ends of the U is adhesive tape.

The piece that goes into the front of the airbox is a rubber piece. This is foam rubber. I've scoured the directions and they make no note of it. There's nothing else to seal. I suppose you could stick it in the scoop opening, but you wouldn't need the adhesive to do that.

I sent them an e-mail. I'll post the response when I get it.

Re: FTRA Question

Well, the first answer was right...Here's the reply:

Joseph,

That is just packing material and you can throw it away. One of our
customers did come up with a creative use for it however. He cut the foam
piece down to size so it would fit in the top of the ram air duct. That way
if he ever got caught int he rain and didn't want to take the time to put
the block off plate on, he would simply pull off the front rubber seal and
stuff the foam piece into the top of the duct preventing water from coming
into the air box.

Guess they're still sending them out the same way - glad they responded so quick - I was going to try and dig up the answer and still can't remember where I saw it.
