pulling splash guard for air flow

Have any of you guys pulled your splash guard for better air flow to the filters on your CAI? I was about to but I am worried about a lot of water getting in there.

I cut a hole and attached a wal-mart dryer duct onto mine. Filter still gets wet, but not as bad as I thought it would. If you do a search, there are other ways guys fashioned scoops onto their splashguard.

It seems like a lot of people have cut holes in the splash guard and done the above. It's sometimes called the free ram air mod to help with your searching

Yep, I know I did the same thing. I used heating ductwork.
Probably doesn't help much, but it certainly doesn't hurt anything.

You can see mine on page 2 of the link below.

If you were to do it and try to get the full benifit, you would have to seal off the air box so that you are actually creating positive pressure in the air box.

Re: pulling splash guard for air flow

I'd like to place my vote in the "Big waste of time" box.

All you will manage to do is mangle part of your car and make the filter get dirty faster than normal because all kinds of crap is going to get in there without the splash guard on. Even the "scoop" idea is a waste, IMO.

I'd just install a good CAI and be done with it. That is the right way to do it.
