Problem with fuel gauge

The fuel gauge always sits way above the F mark. I pulled the sending unit out and when i mess with it the gauge will work like normal. When i put it all back together it goes back to the way it was. It's a new unit. Anyone ever have the same sorta problem?

how much gas is in the car?

If its "all the time" meaning you've been drivin it around like this, then theres probably a short somewhere or the float is gettin stuck somewhere when you put it back in.
If the tank is full of gas, then ya its normal. these cars will go waaaay past full and stay there for a while, because of how the tanks are shaped.

You said its a new unit, if you've been driving around on it and its not working, take it back and exchange it.

Yeah been driving around for awhile.

the origonal one was doing the same thing. Bought this one and when i first put it in it worked. Car sat up for about a year. When it got to driving again it would work and then after a min it'd just shoot all the way up. It was doin this for a lil while then it just started doing it all the time. but like i said i could take it out and fiddle with it and it'd work. put it all back together and it'd work for a second then it'd shoot all the way up.
