Power steering probs again! Please help.

Last thursday i was comming home and soon as i turned into my subdivision it was hard to turn in. Get home and appears to be power steering fluid everywere. So i clean up everything then started to check everthing the next day. Nothing seems to be wrong. it drove fine power steering even worked. I Thought that maybe since the power steering cap was spring loaded that maybe the system build up so pressure and then spit it out. So i drive the car almost a week no probs at all. Today i get to school and then again it is really hard to pull into the parking lot. I just went to class with my car smoking and all. It was just because the power steering fluid was all over the headers. So i get out of school and there is a puddle under the car. But it looks like burnt power steering fluid. I checked the power steering resivor and it smell like it is brunt up. So i check everthing over and drive it home and everthing seems fine again!!!???????? I am not going to drive it b/c i guess the pump is bad. Does the system have a bleeder on it because there is power steering fluid everwhere and i cant find were it is comming from. First weird thing is that i never fill the power steer resivor even after the first accident but it is still full?????? Second my car seemed to be running a little hotter then it normally does. Not like over heating or anything just alittle higher. Could that just be because the pump is causeing extra strain on the motor???? THANKS for reading and helping!!! End rant!!!

Are you sure it's power steering fluid? You had what, three big 'spills' and it's still full? Unless you were overfilled it to begin with this doesn't make any sense. Have you checked the level of your oil?

Hey man just a word of advice...do NOT drive the car anymore with the bad pump...go get a new one as soon as u can because my pump stopped workin but i still drove it and eventually the pulley locked up and split the shaft in half and my power steering fluid spilled out everywhere then my belt slipped off and i ended up spitting fluid all over my opti etc etc worst thing ever now my car finally runs rite after like 2000 dollars worth of mess ups...just go get a new pump..ull be glad u did hope all goes well

Re: Power steering probs again! Please help.

removing the pump for me was not hard cuz my pulley was already laying on the ground but ive take it off many of times for spark plug wire replacements..what you do is take ur airbox off if u have one then unhook the radiator hose and zip tie it up somewhere so coolant doesnt pour everywhere off then u use the belt tensioner to loosen the belt and after that take the alternator off and then u will see the power steerring pump one u undo a few bolts including the hard hose connecting to the back of it u will pull it out...but note at ur local store they will only sell the pump so u will need to rent a kit which uses a press on tool to take the pulley out of the pump and put on the new one...note: in order to take the pump out u must use an extra long socket to get through the hole on the pulley and get to the two bolts located behind the pulley if u have any other questions cuz i know im forgettin somethin just pm me and ill try to explain best as possible what i havent gotten already...hope some of this helps btw once u get the hang of it after doin it a few times for like header installs plugs and wires etc it will take no more than 45 min just take ur time
