Plastic Shield Inside the Door

I'm changing my drivers side window motor and when I took off the panel the plastic vapor shield like thing inside the door was pretty messed up. Do I need this thing? If so, is it possible to buy a new one?

Years ago a body shop left mine off when they replaced my door skin. I haven't noticed any problems with it.

It doesn't rain much in Tucson, I wouldn't worry about it.
