If you have to pass emissions, you won't pass without a cat. Leaning out your fuel (additive or calibration) will reduce your emissions, not sure by how much as I have never done it before.

Gutting the cat is worthless and in most casses gaines you no power due to the increased turbulance in the empty cat. You will also not pass an emissions test without it.

Gutting or removing the cat makes your chances of passing very slim to none. As mentioned above, there is very little, if anything, to be gained by gutting the cat. I would have a new one installed and let it be this time around.

The thing they stick in your tailpipe will never reach your converter. The probe would have to be 12 feet long and able to negotiate the matrix within the muffler if you have one. Some cars can pass without a functional converter but they are close to failing. An astute worker will know you have altered the converter by the sound and odor.

They haven't done away with e-check. They have suspended the cost for the time being. Most counties do not have emission testing. Perhaps you live in one of those places or have moved to one.

Although the OE cat is like $650 (I know, I had one replaced under warranty ) an aftermarket one is alot cheaper. I think I could have got a whole y-pipe/ high flow cat assembly from magnaflow for $250. A stand alone weld-in cat can be had for even less.

It doesn't need to reach the cat. With it gutted, the exhaust gasses are not cleaned up by the cat, so they exit the tailpipe. The sniffer picks up the CO and CO2 levels and then you fail.

With a gutted cat, you will most likely fail. Just have a shop weld in an aftermarket cat. They are fairly inexpensive.

youll fail with a gutted cat. i have emissions in my county, but i register my cars(that wont pass lol) to stark county where they dont have echeck testing. i just told the people at the bmv that i go to school from the address, no questions asked. just make sure you memorize the address incase you get pulled over. i have been doing this for 3 yrs now and havent had a problem.

The alcohol stuff should work fine. My friend recently sold a 89 GTA to my neighbor because it wouldn't pass emissions. He put some of that "Guarantee to Pass" stuff in his gas, and well, he passed.
