Optima Yellow Top
Planning on replacing my battery around thanksgiving and im sold on an Optima, but im not sure which one I want to get. Currently I dont have anything audio wise more than a aftermarket head unit, however, this coming summer, i plan on adding two fairly low powered amps to my car. I know I would probably be just fine for many years with a Red Top, but I kinda like knowing that I can drain the yellowtop a number of times and it will be real close to the original charge. Im not real concerned with the added cost of a yellowtop, but just wondering if it will actually benefit me in any way. And any additional info on the yellowtops would be great, cuz im still pretty hazy on what exactly a deepcycle battery is. Thanks!!!

Re: Optima Yellow Top
Whats the difference between the yellow and red? or blue, whatever. I've looked.. the red has higher cranking amps than the yellow, BUT the yellow has a couple models with over 1000 cranking amps..
Can anyone shed some light on the different types? I've always used red myself
THanks

I replaced my original battery with the OPTIMA Red Top
I researched which OPTIMA battery was best for my car on OPTIMA's website, and if I recall, the Yellow Top was more expensive, not necessay, and really wouldn't be any better for my application.
I purchased mine at SEARS Automotive Center.
OPTIMA batteries are pretty good. The SS is pretty much put in storage for the winter, and I was told the OPTIMA Red Top will hold a charge longer.

Re: Optima Yellow Top
Two years ago I was given an Optima red top. It had been in my boss' car(Caprice with a 502), and had been sitting on the garage floor for the better part of a year. I put it in my car, never had to charge it, and it's been going strong for two years now. It cranks over great in the winter, and has never once given a hint of any problems.
Re: Optima Yellow Top
Where is the best place to get an Optima? I went to both Pep Boys and Autozone and they quoted me 110 for the battery. That about as good as it gets give or take a few bucks? Also, does Interstate rebadge Optimas when they sell them, or are they normal looking Optimas?
