Oils good or bad?

Hey guys i know its kind of a personal opinion question but i am bored as work and it was on my mind..but really how good are some oils. for instance royal purple and Q is suppose to gain you hp, castrol syntec is suppose to be best for wearing blah blah blah. well i need someone who has used these oils for their opinion.

Also has anyone heard or used the pure power oil filter...the one thats suppose to be reuseable. thanks for the help

Re: Oils good or bad?

What you need are reports from people who actually have data to back their claims. There are a lot "it works for me", or "never had a problem with this oil", or "if it's good enough for this or that car, it's good enough for mine". There have been some oil analysis report numbers posted for the LT1, and the German made Castrol Synthetic 0W30 is showing the best numbers. Bobistheoilguy is a good place to start looking for real analysis reports, but watch out for the people who are selling oil.

Great site to read, may not answer your exact question, but it is very informative.

Any good Brand of 10W30 will work, just change the oil/filter every 3000 miles or 3 months. That is the secret of long engine life. Just forget the BS and extra cost of some of the ones you mentioned.

Re: Oils good or bad?

To me any major brand of synthetic oil is fine, castrol, mobil, havoline...doesn't matter personally. As far as a reusable oil filter though, I don't think I'd even want to try it...an oil filter is $3-4 why not just replace it.
