Oil pressure gauge going wack!!!

I have a 96 lt1. Just recently I noticed that the oil pressure gauge needle has been at the top of the gauge while driving around 2000rpms, this is new. The needle shoots way up there as soon as the engine warms up. While I accelerate the needle bounces down to mid-gauge. Any suggestions???

Re: Oil pressure gauge going wack!!!

Wiring or pressure sensor would appear to have an intermittent open circuit. The gauge pegs on the high side with infinite resistance.

What kind of pressure readings do you see when the engine is cool?

Re: Oil pressure gauge going wack!!!

Well, I drove it town town(10 miles) for lunch and the needle stayed at the top of the gauge there and back. Even when I turned the engine off..

Re: Oil pressure gauge going wack!!!

Did you read what I posted? I already answered that question. It's an open circuit due to the wire (broken or disconnected) or a faulty pressure "sensor". It's not a "switch".
