odd electricl issue

i converted my crank manual windows and doors to power. i bought 2 power doors and the wiring harness from another member - installed it and everything worked fine ( power windows, doors ,mirrors , keyless entry ) the only thing that did not work was the RAP. the first time i had it out for app 30 minutes i lost power to the radio and the windows, doors and mirrors. the car still ran fine. app 3-4 minutes later the power came back on. i drove home another 20 minutes no problem. the other day i was out and it happened again. any suggestions as what could be causing it?

Re: odd electricl issue

There should be a 30-amp circuit breaker for the power windows in the panel at the end of the dash. Sounds like the breaker is tripping and then resetting. Check the breaker, if you haven't already.

thanks for the advice --- swapped out the breaker for the defroster and put it in the power window slot. drove around for a good while and no problem. ill keep an eye on it. any idea why my RAP is not working. could it be the module? any way to test it?

Here's the service manual trouble shooting charts for the RAP system. Something I noticed in the system description was the RAP module was part of the door locks, so if you added door locks, did you also add the module?

Re: odd electricl issue

windows and doors lose power as soon as i turn the key off. when i was installing the harness i could not unplug the RAP module off the harness to make it easier to install the harness. im thinking now that the plug may have oxidized and that may be the problem. im going to review the troubleshooting charts ( thanks injuneer and peterpar ) and take it from there. will update when i have more. thanks guys.

Re: odd electricl issue

When you installed the harness for the RAP module, the black wire on pin E of the RAP connector would need to be grounded. Did you remember to do this?

Re: odd electricl issue

there was a heavy loose black wire in the harness near the main connector. i did ground that wire. put it on the ground stud under the left side of the dash. reviewed that manual -- good stuff thanks. i have to take a closer look at the plug on the module --

Re: odd electricl issue

finally tracked down the problem. the module was bad. i would put a little pressure on the plug and the circuit would go on and off. replaced the module and everything is working including the RAP. thanks all
