Odd brake issue..

I have been noticing lately when I get in my car and start it up, the brake peddle is hard as a rock, like someone pumped them solid with the car off. Every time if it sits for more then 2-3 hours.. Any idea's why? doesn't seem like a problem but just want to be sure of that, brakes are pretty important!

TIA
Craig

Re: Odd brake issue..

if you press the pedal then start the engine, does the pedal drop?

sounds like your booster is leaking vacuum

yea soon as I start it, its fine. Is this a big problem? I have a vacuum gauge in my A-pillar and its not showing any signs of a leak.

Re: Odd brake issue..

I would guess there is a slow leak in the ABS control manifold. The manifold has a accumulator to store pressure and I would guess it's leaking. To verrify this I would jack up the car after it has sat and the pedal becomes hard, see if the brakes are applied on one of the wheels. If it won't turn, the problem is in the ABS manifold. As it's slow and the ABS regulates pressure in the manifold while it's running, I don't see it as a big problem. But just the same, I would replace the ABS manifold to be safe. It's your brakes.
