New problem... Trans am headlight related... whats causing this?

just about an hour ago... i turned my headlights off as usual before turning my car off... they went down, like normal, on track, same speed, zero obstructions, all the way seated. however... once they got all the way down and stopped like usual.. a terrible whirring like noise came from the passenger side front... i quickly turned the lights back on... they flipped up operating as normal and the sound immediately went away... turned them back off... did the same thing and made the same noise.

its doing it non stop now, whenever i turn the lights off and they fold down. I would say it lasts for a solid slow count to 5 then quits on its own. having the engine running or not doesn't change anything.

also, when i lock the doors by manually hitting the switch on the door before i close it, the foglights usually click on then click off i guess to show the security is activated or something. However, now, ALL the lights come on then go off... meaning the headlights turn on flip up then go out and fold down along with the foglights... again making that terrible vibrating whirring noise, i've never seen that happen before.

anyone know what im talking about or what the potential problem/fix is???

thank you SO much for any help,

Jared

If you do a search under "headlight fix", you'll find a couple write-ups on this. Basically, the plastic gear inside the motor has failed and you can replace it with a metal, more durable one.

Did you read the link completely? It describes the problem in infinite detail... make sure you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page.

Because this has happened since pop-ups have been on the 'Bird. It will happen to every single one of them eventually. Read the link, it will explain why your motor keeps turning after your head lights are shut.

Because I had the same problem and fixed it with the new gear.

o.. ok thanks for the help guys

just out of curiosity... what does the headlights popping up everytime i just turn on the foglights have to do with that gear being broken?

or did i miss that too?

yeah, this i cannot answer. if fact just 2 minutes ago i unlock my car and my headlights flipped up then down the bzzzzzzzzz... FACK! not again. i've done this fix like twice per headlight already. oh well. i think the car does this cause it's pissed and wants to make sure you embarrass yourself in front of everyone... that way you'll fix her faster.
