New o2 sensors. WOW what a difference.

I can't believe what a difference the new sensors made. Before my car was stalling, and the rpms were jumping at a red light, exhaust sounded kinda ruff. But now, it is so much smoother, more powerful and overall more pleasurable to drive. My old ones were solid black covered in carbon. What causes this? I'm afraid about my new sensors getting this way and acting up again and having to spend that money again on new sensors.

I guess if your car is running really rich, your O2 sensors will get crapped up quicker..

they are recommended to be replaced every 35,000 miles or something, anyways...

Looking at your sig it appears as though you don't have any cats so can I assume you only replaced the front two sensors? Also, was your car throwing any codes? Mine has just recently started acting like a plug wire is going out again...slight vibration under throttle...but they are pretty new so I was considering replacing the o2s as maintenance and to eliminate them as a problem. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

My ses light was on. Had it scanned at autozone. I knew awhile ago it was the o2's when I had it scanned. For a quick temporary fix back then, I took them out and put them under a flame and used o2 sensor safe cleaner on them. It lasted about a month or so, then the light came back on and started running ruff again. I do have 1 rear cat and yes just the front 2 were replaced. If I were you, i'd get it scanned at an autozone or somewhere like that. The rear o2 won't affect performance at all. That just says if your cat is working or not.

Thanks for the info. I have a scanner so I can scan it myself but the light isn't on so I don't think it will tell me anything. Guess I will just think about it for a little while. Thanks again.

I bought my 2 front ones from Jason for like $85 shipped. I called my local dealer, and they wanted $125 each plus tax.

You don't need to replace any O2 sensors AFTER the catalytic converter/converters.. they don't do anything except tell you your cat is bad

Well, on my jeep the one by the cat went out and it did affect my gas mileage. I used to get 19.1 mpg city now i get around 15 so it does play a role. Plus you dont want to cook your cats by running either too rich or too lean. Thats how most cats get clogged and blow.
