New Member With A Camaro Story To Share
Hello everyone, I'm a new member to this site and wanted to share a quick story about a 2002 Z-28 that my wife and I just purchased.
Having owned many 1st Generation Camaro’s, from base cars to COPO’s my wife and I wanted to purchase a 4th generation 2002 Camaro to round out our Camaro’s collection, and specifically wanted a 2002 last production model year. Anyway around the Summer of 2001 we went shopping for a new Camaro, after a few weeks of looking around to no avail we stepped back for a couple of weeks to take a break and let the salesman do their thing, now it’s September, September 11th 2001 to be exact. I was at work when the tragic events of the day played out. Working for a defense contractor, as well as a reservist Chief Master sergeant in the NY Air National Guard, I was called upon that morning to report to the air base so we could launch what we thought was an offensive maneuver. Without any hesitation I made my way to the base where I ended up on active duty for nearly one year. During that crazy and hectic time in my life I had no time to pursue the purchase of a New “Z”. At that point my wife and I said to each should we ever find a good used Camaro we would purchase it. Well last Sunday my wife woke up and was reading the morning paper and stumbled upon a Camaro that was traded in at a local BMW dealership. She looked up the Camaro on the web site and when viewed she could not believe that it was nearly exact to what we would have purchased in 2001 had the dealership been able to get one for us. What the BMW dealership took in was a one owner, white Z-28, LOADED. With much excitement we both tore out of the house in hopes that then car was still available and not sold. Being Sunday we knew the dealership was closed but figured we would window shop. Upon arrival to the BMW dealer we saw the car sitting out back waiting to be prepped for sale. One look at the car and we new we had to own it.
To make a long story a bit shorter the Z was brand new. The car had 9600 miles on it and was traded in by the original owner on a new BMW. The owner took meticulous car of the car, and rarely drove it from the looks of it. The car still had the protective plastic on the seats and floor, and to even blow me away the owner installed a complete Borla exhaust system and gave the original back to the dealership, I’m thinking NO WAY. What we found was a car that was the perfect find. Looks, options, accessories. Now came the waiting game. On Monday morning I had my wife literally arrive at the dealership an hour prior to opening to get right to the sale associates. At 8:30 she met the salesman and with great relief and excitement we became a Generation 4 owner.
The story is not over yet. Being a purest and always interested in the cars origin, I called my Buddy at Bresee Chevrolet, and he ran my VIN in the “GM Vehicle Inquiry System” With that he faxed my wife the report. What we saw next shocked us completely. 9/11 forever changed the lives of most of us, to include my family and myself. As I viewed the assembly sheet, I was taken back when I seen the block on the report marked “build date” reflected
9-11-2001.
Call it coincidence or fate, but one thing is clear, if their was ever a meaning in something that was it for us. Things do happen for a reason.

My wife and I went to our first cruise in last night with the car and we had a ton of people walk up and really comment how brand new the car was. I usually take my '69 to these events but we opted for the '02 Z. I found that the younger kids, really dig these gen 4 cars.
Our local paper is doing an article on the car next week and the events that brought us to finding and purchasing the car.

Wow, excellent story!
I agree, things really do happen for a reason for those of us who live life the way we should if you catch my drift?
BTW, I purchased my '02 M6 Z28 (in sig) brand-new back in the summer of 2002 and have NO plans of ever getting rid of it.
It's definitely a special car IMO and I've treated it as such.
Congrats on the sweet new ride,
Mike

When the paper does the story, post the link so we all can read about it.
