Well I need a new A/C compressor...anyone know what prices Jason/Dal can get for a '94 compressor?...might as well get a dryer also.

 

I just had mine replaced with a brand new GM unit, new clutch, idler, the works. Including labor the total was about $1200.00. You could probably get a rebuilt compressor for about $200, put it on yourself and have the system pumped down and recharged and get off well under $400 total. In my case the system was still fully charged and I didn't want to proceed other than having it pumped down the right way.

I got a low mileage used one and put it in myself. Let me tell you, it was not hard at all! I was ready to work all day, but my friend and I got it out in less than an hour or so. I brought it to the shop to have it evacuated and filled again the proper way just to be safe, but you can just fill it yourself with a kit from walmart or a parts store. I didn't replace the drier only because it's only been on the car since August, but I'd definitely recommend a new one. If you get a new compressor:
1. Make sure not to get a remanufactured.
2. Make sure you put a little oil in it before you install it.

FWIW, it was really really easy to reach plug #1 with my shorties as well, so this might be a good time to change your plugs if you haven't in a while.

 

well I don't know about you guys, but my cost at the dealership I work at is like 350. The rebuilt was 319. So its a no brainer to buy new. But, anyone had any luck with the off brand ones? like bumper to bumper, oriely, autozone... ext? That is a butt-load of money for something that makes you SLOWER! LOL.
