Re: NEVER ENDING hunt for knock retard

The plastic elbow on the passenger valve cover is just that, an elbow. I see oil in the hose not a ton but there is some... it has vacuum on it from the intake I'm sure?

I got another code 16 today, so I guess my opti is going bad. I rubbed my front spoiler on a huge hill downtown and then it threw a code 16.. what the heck lol. Not to fun only 2 months owning the car and continue to find problems... Also broke 2 trans mounts in this time waiting on the energy suspension poly mount..

Re: NEVER ENDING hunt for knock retard

The port that the hose from the valve cover connects to is routed in front of the throttle blades. It is not exposed to manifold vacuum unless the blades are wide open, and when the blades are wide open, the intake manifold vacuum is close to 0.

If you think it may be "false" knock, I have always run a tank of unleaded Race Gas to check that. It won't be knocking if you have good gas.

Go to Davebarton.com if you live in SCal. He has most places with 100 octane unleaded listed.

Re: NEVER ENDING hunt for knock retard

Made a 75 mile drive in the camaro this week, I normally only drive it 20-30 mins a day. When I got in the car I was getting knock constantly. I filled up with 93 and hopped on the interstate. About 15 minutes in everything cleared up for the whole trip there and back. I made it back home and let it sit for a half hour while eating and left for work...

Check engine light was on when I got back in the car; Code 16 & 36 for opti but the car still ran pretty decent and wasn't even throwing any KR. I guess the opti is going out but how can I diagnose the opti if it is still running decent?

Do you know if the previous owner installed the LT4 knock module on the bottom of the PCM? I was going to suggest it, but when I googled it, I found lots of people claiming that it was too sensitive, made the car retard timing more. Might be worth a look.

Re: NEVER ENDING hunt for knock retard

I was messing around with my spare parts while cleaning garage last night and seen my spare PCM.
Opened it up and realized the knock module was 1677700 in it. This meant that my stock knock module was in my toolbox PCM and not in the car.. I pulled the PCM in the car and checked the code on it... guess what it's an 16188309 which is B Body/caprice I'm pretty sure.. so just posting my findings and will also reply after some fresh EEHACK logs to see if this fixed it haha.
