Never Been More Angry about traction
I JUST got my Nitto 555R's for the rear tires. Front tires were at 35psi....the Nittos were dropped to 20psi. I did a 5 second burnout before each of the runs. I THOUGHT that i would be able to just stomp the throttle, because I only have 2.73 gears and very few mods....this was NOT the case. I cut a 2.59 60' and ran a 14.9 @ 95mph. The next two runs I stepped the throttle about halfway off the line, and I STILL could only cut a 2.3x 60' and ran 14.6x @ 97.x mph. The last thing I tried was TOTALLY rolling the throttle off the line. The tires didn't squeal one bit, and I cut a 2.28 60' and ran a 14.58 @ 97.x mph. Overall this was the WORST let down in a while. Am I doing something wrong at the track? I have been able to drive on the STREET with these tires, MASH the throttle 100% from a stop and the tires hook like CRAZY.....all the loose air fresheners and papers sitting around in my car go flying around. Why the heck does my car hook better on the street than the track, where it matters most to me?!?!!??!?!
Re: Never Been More Angry about traction
street is completely different than track prep...
but ya im personally not happy with the nittos either (times in sig) my 60ft sucked and no matter what i tried it was either bog or spin.
i think ive finally got it right though, need to feather the clutch a bit and only use about 3/4 throttle through first gear.
---------
but as far as the nittos, i can break them lose on the street at 35 and my car should not have enough power to do this... this summer im buying BF Goodrich comps and see how they do

Re: Never Been More Angry about traction
well.....I just got back from watching a movie, and I of course decided to launch the car HARD on the street to test out the tires again. The tire pressure is back up to 30psi right now.....I just put my lead foot to the floor and the car really kicks back and bites, no matter how hard I stand on the throttle. I guess I just expected the tires to stick at the track as good as they do at the street. Is this normal?....or do most of you get worse traction on the street than on the track?
Re: Never Been More Angry about traction
Did you try 30# in them at the track? If your hooking that good on the street at that press., try it. My Nittos like 24# on the street for most even wear and good traction and 18# at the track. 17# at track and the dang thing is all over on the 1-2 shift.
If you want really bad traction, try Dunlop SP8000s.
I talked to a guy at the track last summer, well, he asked about mileage on my Nittos (~1400) and he showed me his BFG DRs that were losing chunks of tread off the edge of the tread blocks at 100 miles.

Re: Never Been More Angry about traction
It all depends on track prep.
Here in Memphis, we don't get much in the way of prep for Test-n-Tune. But, catch the track right after an event and it is sticky as (insert your own crude **** star joke here)
