Need help quick!? keys locked in car.

this morning i locked keys in car while at school..., have no spare keys and am 20 miles from home so very little tools or anything...

ive searched and it seems no one has had this problem...

i know on the third gen i used to drive that i could pick the locks with two tiny hex keys. would that work on this car as well(95 z28)

its a convertable which probobly doesnt change anything and no im not ripping the top appart.

The drivers side window is tight but the passenger side will pull back around 3/4ths of an inch.

I NEED any information about how to get my keys back... any information would help

THANKS!

ahh... i just figured it out... im gona take the antenta off and use it to unlock the doors through the power locks on the passenger side... stupid me...

thanks

Get a door wedge or two, some rags and long stiff piece of metal or wire

might need a wonder bar too

pry open the top of the window - no frame at top should make this very easy, if you use a tool like a wonder bar to do the prying wrap the rag around to help prevent scratches

wrap a door wedge and use it to hold the top of the window frame out, maybe use more if you need to

then use your piece of wire or metal to pop the lock

you might cause some damage doing this, you might not and hell I'm sure if you pry on the side glass to hard or too far it could break

either that or call a locksmith or tow company and have them break in for you

Hmmm... would be a good time to have OnStar eh? hehehehehe

Well, I can tell you that although the key blanks are different, the door lock cylinder and tumblers are exactly the same as your 3rd gen. So, if you could pick the old locks, you should be able to pick these ones.

Or, your best bet... call the nearest GM dealership. With the VIN#, they can pull the keycodes and cut new keys. They'll probably ask you for ID for security. I used to cut keys at least twice a week for customers in the same predicament as you!

Good luck!

ummm.. if you have the factory keyless with alarm, that won't work.

The alarm deactivates the power lock switches until you disarm.

If you don't have the alarm, or if the alarm isn't armed, then you may be in luck.

Yep, what he said. How about calling a locksmith? If you live in NJ I know of a good one

Re: Need help quick!? keys locked in car.

well i tried the antenna and it wont work, not long enough and too flexable...

i was wanting to try a yard stick but there doesnt seem to be one in this entire high school.......

if i cant get this to work then i will just get my mom to bring over a toolbox and see if i can pick the lock like i did with a third gen.....

it has an after market alarm that is disabled, and the only remote i have is to start engine.

grab on the top of the window, you can pull it a good 6-7 inches without causing any problems. Take a yard stick or hanger or something and unlock the door, I can break into an fbody in under 2 minutes, its really not as difficult as it should be.

are you sure... 6-7 inchs seems like a lot... and i really cant afford to break anything especially a window... a few minutes ago when i was outside i couldnt even move it an inch without thinking it was gona break...

your talking about a fourth gen right... not a third...

edit: and i dont have a yard stick as explained above

thanks

Yup....it is a lot, thats why these cars are so easy to get into

Yup 4th gen

I won't be held responsible if you break something, but I've done this probably about 15 times, and never had a problem

Re: Need help quick!? keys locked in car.

I used to use a wire coat hanger on my 95 v6 firebird. I would take the hanger and bend the hook to make it smaller, slide it down right above the handle but a lil more to the opening of the door, and I would slide it down and just yank a few times and eventually the hanger would catch the rod that locks and unlocks the door and voila. After about the 4th time I became pro and was able to locate it right awat with one tug lol.

Re: Need help quick!? keys locked in car.

I saw a tow truck guy unlock a 4th Gen at a car show. Put a wedge between the outside rubber molding at the top of the door (on the door, not at the top of the glass), and went in from outside the glass with a rod with a thin hook at the end. Caught the rod from the lock button to the handle assembly, I guess. Pulled it and the lock released. Took him about 15 seconds. Absolutely no tugging on the glass, and very little risk of any damage to anything else.

Re: Need help quick!? keys locked in car.

Be careful if you have automatic door locks. The wedge is a damn good tool. That said, if you dont know what your doing you can start a fire in your door. There are wires that have juice and it doesnt take much to ground them. Best bet is to call a locksmith and pay the $30-$40. And for the next time...make a dup of your door key and zip tie that bad boy underneath your car!! Saved my rear once or twice.
