Need help with head light switch

I am having problems with the switch that controls the head lights/parking lights. Lately the switch has been acting funny (e.g. not turning freely and not turning my gauge lights on when I turn my head lights on). My gauges have been coming when I turn my parking lights on but now don’t even do that. Is this something that happens often and what am I looking at to try and fix it? I know that I will probably need to take the dash apart but from what I have heard it is hard to do without breaking and I have worked hard to keep the dash crack free thus far. Any ideas or comments would be vary appreciated.

Have not heard of this being a common problem. I haven't touched the switch on mine, as it's a 97. I don't consider this to be a very hard job. Just be careful and don't force anything.

My other question would be, can i get that switch at auto zone/dealership or do i need to look through junk yards. I would think that is a common switch used by gm in the mid 1990.
