Mods for Open Road Racing

I am in the process of re-doing a '96 B4C and have decided to set it up for Open Road Racing like here
http://www.bborr.com/home.html.

Specifics on the car so far and the work completed:

131k --29K on NEW Jasper Engine
3.23 Posi Rear
Tranny Cooler
6 point roll bar

New parts/fixes:
1LE Rear Springs
deCarbon Shocks
Water Pump
Front/rear main seals
Rear swaybar bushings
SLP CAI

What I need suggestions on is mods to improve performance and handling. Keeping in mind the car will be run on a road course for up to 120 miles and speeds of 120-140mph.
I need reliability and SAFETY and with that in mind, I was thinking:
Larger brakes
Oil Cooler
roller rockers
mild cam
what else?

Anyone who has experience with an improved braking system etc, I would like to read your specifics.

Thanks all,

To hit 120-140 mph, you don't really need the mild cam, roller rockers etc.. A stock Z28 will do those speeds pretty easily. A cam swap could also possibly mean unreliability. At least you know a stock engine is built to last.

That said, proper cooling is essential. An oil cooler would certainly be beneficial. The tranny cooler is very good, too. Maybe even a larger radiator. Larger brakes are not really necessary since I don't think you will be using your brakes too much in open road racing (If it is the same type of open road racing that I am thinking of). There is a fellow named Boyce that has been doing open road racing in his 4th gen LS1 Camaro for a while with speeds of 180+mph (I am not 100% sure, but it is way fast), and last time I read, he was still on his stock LS1 brakes with cooling ducts and good pads. But if you really want to upgrade, try the Z06 brake upgrade. Speed Specialty has once again started selling the Bob Bishop conversion brackets for a limited time, so you might want to jump in on that. Pretty much everyone who uses his brackets, the Z06 brakes and some kind of brake ducts are extremely happy with their brake performances from what I have been reading.

What you really want to do for those kinds of speeds is to do some suspension work. New shocks are a must; don't skimp on the shocks (read: ditch the Decarbons, they are junk). Proper lowering springs (such as LG, the Eibach Pro-Kit, Ground Control Coil-overs, and NOT BMR) would also help by allowing less air to get under the car and cause lift at high speeds. Also, make sure to check all your bushings and such are in good condition before you go out there.

Finally, you might want to consider turning that roll-bar into a roll-cage. If I was planning on going that fast, I would certainly go a little overboard with the safety. Maybe get a little fire extinguisher in the car, too.

Good luck, and if you want to find out more head over to frrax.com, where lots of F-body racers hang out.

Here are the other three sites. Don't know if you have them already or not.
FIRST read the rules for all the racing groups, unless you want to restict yourself to just one race. Each class has more restrictive safety rules as you go up in speed.
Remember the first time out your going to have to run in the lower classes.
With a tech of ~140mph you won't really need many mods. Just make sure everything is in very good running order.
Good advice in the above post. Good stock brakes are ok, suspension mods, tires, and cooling at this speed are probably recommended. Safey equipment is absolutely required, and get the best you can afford.
Most often recommended: Because you have to run the lower class the first time don't spend a lot of money on mods. Just get the safety gear and come out and run one. Once there you can get a feel for this kind of racing and talk to guys in every class. You will then have a better idea of how far you may want to take this.
