Milky Power Steering fluid

This is not for the car on my signature. Working on a 2002, z28, LS1, 6 speed manual. The power steering fluid looks like strawberry milkshake. Also looks like that fluid is entering the coolant system. Where should I start? This is my neighbors car and was trying to help him.

Does the car have a power steering cooler?

Re: Milky Power Steering fluid

I assumed that the two lines that are tied into the radiator hose/metal tube is a cooler. We decided to bypass the two lines. We figured something was jacked up on the system. Is this ok to do? Also, if that is the right direction, what is the best way to flush the power steering system?

Re: Milky Power Steering fluid

I have a download of the 98 factory manual, and steering is covered in Volume 2, section 2. There is a troubleshooting guide that indicates that the milky fluid may indicate the presence of air in the system. There are several things that can cause this, including an "internal pump leak".

The manual doesn't cover the cooler, but I thought it was an option. Not sure what year it became available.

If you want a link to the download, let me know.
