Mechanical or Electronic guages?

so im gettin all Auto-meter guages for the third gen and i noticed that alot, if not all, of them come in either mechanical or electrical. now the electrical ones are alot more expensive, like 65 for a mechanical or 180 for electronic.

my question is, is the electronic one really worth the extra coin?

thanks alot!

What gauges? Where are you mounting them at?

the olny one that is drastically different in price is the fuel pressure. All of the rest are pretty close in price. Yes they are more but IMO the electronic guages are easier to read and less of a mess. No hoses and tubing running all over the place. Much cleaner to run wires and make a harness and put them in loom. You wont even notice it when you open the hood. Here is a vid with mine in it. Never mind the tach... it was not hooked up yet. I did not use a speedo. Its a track only car.

Mechanical gauges are supposed to be slightly more accurate, but not necessary unless you're racing pro street or something. Like he said, the electrical ones are much easier and cleaner and you don't have any fluids in your car.

Brian, that is a sweet ride!

Thanks again.. I went with electric guages for just that reason. You dont see anything in my engine compartment. I hid all the eiring in factory loom and it blends right into the factory wiring. Unless your looking for it you dont even notice it

With the guages of today, electric guages are more accurate than mechanical, easier to install and you dont have fluids inside the car.

The only one that i got that was mechainical was N20 pressure becasue i already had a line running in the car so it wasnt hard. For fuel pressure you definately want electrical as the mechaincal ones you need a isolator and from what i hear they dont work that well. IMO as well as most of the other people who posted go with electrical

Are you talking about your fuel tank level gauge, or do you have an aftermarket fuel pressure gauge?

The main reason I like mechanical is that I prefer the full sweep look over the 90 deg sweep of most electric gauges....there are some full sweep electric but not many.
I have one of each in my Z in the cassette holder:

You've got to track down whether its a loose wire on the gauge end, a loose wire at the fuel tank end, or a failing float. Not really related to the topic at hand

=======================

I run Auto Meter Sport Comp gauges:
-2-5/8" fuel pressure, electronic
-2-5/8" oil pressure, mechanical
-2-5/8" nitrous pressure, mechanical
-2-1/16" oil temperature, electronic
-2-1/16" trans temperature, electronic
