You can not legally change the location or number of the cats. If the MAC's keep the cat in the stock position, and they have the CARB-EO exemption number tag welded on them, you will be "OK". If you do not, its simply a matter of whether they take the time to even look.

Technically no, it is very likely you will still pass a smog inspection with them though because they will pass the sniffer part.

So we could probably get away with middies, but definately not LT's, right?

96 and up replaced the dyno/tailpipe check with a plug-into-the-PCM check. Not aware that they stopped visuals.

Then there's always the "mobile" DMV inspection teams that pull you over at random on the street and do a full visual, and emissions.

do these tags come on them, and if not can you get one from somewhere else and weld it on?

AFAIK, most shorties are legal. does anyone with midlengths know for sure?

Mid lengths for sure are not street legal. It is common to pass smog as long as the shop isn't **** about the visual inspection and you have cats.

On the MAC site they say that it costs too much to get a EO#. They recommend using the number off of Edelbrock or SLP shorties. The MACs will pass the emissions but not the visual so you will have to find a shop that doesn't know too much about headers and tell them that your EO# fell off the headers and give them the Edelbrock number. This should work with the mids but definitely won't work with the LTs since you are moving the cats.
