LT5 questions

can anybody educate me a little bit on these? My uncle was looking at this
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevr...em220119700572
and i thought it was pretty unique being a 4-cam motor. Can anybody educate me on these? Are they easy to upgrade or anything, because i doubt they would have much aftermarket for them?

You're not going to find anything I bet for that engine. They only put them in ZR1 Corvettes from what I remember, and those were the top of the line engines for those years. They made good power, but it's pretty much set where it's at, and you're SOL if you break something and want a guide on how to fix it cause it's such a rare engine.

Okay...Last I heard, only Mercury Marine (offically, I guess) sells these engines and you have to have the VIN from a car that has an LT5 in it to get another engine.

~$10 GR for another LT5, no?

Lotus designed them, if memory serves correct.

While people will argue that they're reliable engines, aftermarket parts and even just replacement parts will cost you an arm and a leg when the time comes. Not to mention, I think I've read that they're a real bear to work on. For 38,000 dollars, your uncle could get himself a slightly used C6 or a really nice C5 Z06. I'd definitely spend the money there before I sunk that much money on a C4.

Not a good investment for a driver, really should be of interest only to a collector. The C5 and C6 are considerably better cars than the C4.

I have always thought that it would be wicked to have an LT5 in an f body.

That'd be a tight squeeze. I think I'd rather go a different and easier route and get the same power.

What would the purpose of the car be, to store away and collect, or something to drive and toy around with? If it is strictly a collectors car, I think that would be a nice car to have. If he wants something to drive around and enjoy, I agree with the idea of a C5 Z06.

I would just like to be the only one that has it. Everyone and their brother can have a worked lt1 or some other standard 8 cylinder.

That is a very rare car and if he's got the money then I say he should go for it. Yeah a C5 or C6 Z06 are faster but a ZR1 Vette is one of the rarest around.
