LS1 vrs LS2 and v6 to v8 swap...
well got a v6 2002, and i was wondering what the difference between the body's as in
rear end strength
transmission,
fuel lines,
computer,
And i wanted to know what the differences between the ls1 and ls2 were...
or if it was just a differnt verision of the same thing, like the lt1 and lt4, or ls1 and ls6...?

Re: LS1 vrs LS2 and v6 to v8 swap...
GM calls the LS2 a Gen IV engine, but for all practical purposes, it is still a Gen III smallblock, but with a few of changes from the LS1/LS6 engines:
-new block casting with different oil galleries
-knock sensors relocated
-cam position sensor relocated to back of block
-bore increased from 3.90 -> 4.00"
-PCV relocated
-redesigned oil pan
-flat top pistons
-lower ring tension
-full floating wrist pins
-basically LS6 heads, with less valve shrouding
-increased 10.9:1 CR
-larger 90mm TB
-upraded intake manifold
-lightweight cast exhaust manifolds
-upgraded high efficiency coils

Re: LS1 vrs LS2 and v6 to v8 swap...
quick run down on things you need for a v8 swap...
-motor(all sensors and such)
-tranny
-fuel lines
-fuel pump
-computer
-harness
-guages
-catback exhaust
-Rear end(your rear will work and is just as strong but if you did not come with factory LSD(some v6s do) you will have to install it, because a pegleg ls1 would just be wierd)
Personally in my opinion, if your car is still relatively stock I woudl consider selling it and buying an ls1 car. I mean I can see the swap being decent on an older v6 or even higher mileage one that won't fetch much money but I have a feeling your '02 may be worth ~$10k. Worth selling and buying a nice used Ls1 car for like $15k.
