Low coolant light on, coolant not low!

Like the title says my low coolant light is on but my coolant is fine. I don't overheat and sometimes it turns off by itself. Its a really annoying light on the cluster. If it costs too much to fix i'll just take the bulb out. I don't wanna do that though. Any suggestions?

its most likely the low coolant sensor, i forget the cost to buy a new one, but its cheap. pop out the old, and put in the new. its a really quick fix. its on the radiator, a few inches below the radiator cap if i remember correctly.

Take out the sensor and keep an eye on your coolant (Which you should anyway) That will solve your problem.

exact same problem on my moms 2002 grand prix gtp. GM flaw i guess. Its in the same location too, right under the radiator cap. Some people say u can take out the old one and clean it and it will work again but if u do all that effort to take the old one out might as well replace it...

I'll try cleaning it. If that doesn't work i'll just replace it.

I have the same problem. I just unplugged the connector for now and the light went out.

Let us know if the cleaning worked!! I got a NAPA parts quote of $63. Cleaning sounds like a better solution, but if it's not effective, then I don't want to invest in false solution.

Info from Shoebox's Tech Pages. Part prices are "plus shipping" and may be a bit out of date, but it does indicate you can get the replacement from the popular online discount GM parts dealers for way less than $63.

1994-1997coolant level sensor (2 way plug) - PN 10096163 - $23.35

1994-95 coolant level sensor (8 way plug) - PN 12135027 - $18.54

Heck, I was able to buy the coolant level sensor from the dealership itself for only 23 bucks. Maybe the 63 dollars is a quote for the ECT sensor?

Mine is doing this too, if I buy a new one I'd probably have to take out my old one and see if it is a 2 way plug or an 8 way plug before buying one, right?
