little weird gauge prob.
so like for the last month my fuel gauge has been weird.
from almost empty, ill put like 5 dollars in and it goes all the way to full. it drops quick though (because only $5 worth of gas)... also theres times when i start it and it will read 1/2 tank... then ill drive for a little bit and it will jump from 1/4 to 3/4 ???

The gauge is highly inaccurate from the factory. Just gotta get used to it.

Lots of people have problems with the fuel gauge over time. Mine worked well up until a few months ago, then it started jumping around anywhere between 1/4 and 3/4 tank. Anything over or under that and it still works.
While the 4th Gen fuel gauge tends to be inaccurate, I don't don't think that extends to the situation he is describing - its almost "empty", he puts in LESS THAN 2 GALLONS - and it goes to "full". That's well beyond "normal", particularly since it only started happening recently.
The fuel pump doesn't affect the gauge. There are three possibilities.... 1) the sender is faulty. Sender is in the tank, riveted to the fuel pump support assembly. 2) the guage is faulty, with one of the two magnetic coils in the gauge burned out, or 3) the wiring is loose or corroded.
I'd guess its #1. The float dropping to the very bottom of its range due to the tank being empty may have damaged the rheostat coils or loosened some dirt that is causing intermittent contact.

okay, im 90% sure that it is either corosion on the level sensor points, or worn out teeth, the corosion usually occurs when you run car low on gas a lot and the worn out points just happen over time, and its very common on 3rd gen camaros with tbi 5.0 liters, series II 3.8, and any chevy vortec
