Cost difference?
Cost difference?
So my 97 z28 is getting a 383, with P&P stock heads, lt4 hotcam, forged pistons, and nitrous eventually. Right now, it's an auto. What would the cost difference be to get a good build for the 4l60e and a good converter as opposed to everything needed to swap in a t56 with a pretty good clutch? Don't include labor to put it all in, my dad and I would do it.

So is that cheaper than swapping in a T-56 that can hold the same power? I'm curious to know as well...even though I only drive 6-speeds.
Unless you own a transmission shop you won't be doing a good job in building up a 4l60e, they are insane to rebuild, especially for a normal guy. I had mine rebuilt with all the bells and whistles, with a rebuilt converter and it cost me a little over 2K. I'm sure it will last for much longer than stock, but you can get a T56 from one of the guys on here or from a parts car for cheaper. Neither job is fun, but the T56 would cost less I would think if you put in the T56 yourself compared to having someone rebuild the 4l60e, unless you go to CPT. They're a board supporter, look them up.
I agree with the above, look into CPT. Alot of people know how to rebuild these trannies, but they don't really know how to rebuild them. A T56 conversion will be cheaper so it all depends on you and what you want to drive with. Also, if you are doing a 383 build, something a little more then the Hotcam might be a better choice.
