A little problem?

OK i just got my car ready for winter, you know changed the oil, filter, and tranny fluid. When i got it home and put it in the garage my SES light came on, so i opened the hood and took a look. There was some smoke comin off the engine which im geussin was from the oil i spilled on it. So i let it sit for awhile, and then tried agian, and the light was still on, but there was no more smoke. So i gave it a few more days, and tried it agian, and the light is still on, and this time it smelled like burning rubber, but i didnt see any smoke. Well i have two questions about this...

1) Does anyone have any idea of what might have happened???

2) Do you think it would be ok to leave for the winter, and get it looked at in the spring, or could it make it worse if its just sitting there.

Any help would be much appreciated...Thanks

How long did you let it idle for? It took about 20 minutes to burn all the oil I spilled on my manifolds off once. If it was spilled oil, it would take more than just sitting there to get rid of it. Oil doesn't evaporate too well.

It won't hurt for it to sit. Get it scanned when you can.

Re: A little problem?

I let it sit twice for about 15-20 min. Im not too worried about the oil though, im more concerned about the burning rubber that i could smell, and the ses light. I just wasnt sure if maybe the spilled oil had something to do with my light coming on.
