Lifting Jack size?
Lifting Jack size?
If I want to lift up the front end of my Z28, how big of a jack/lift do I need. Basically I am looking to get under my car to change out the manifold O2 sensors. I intend to purchase a hydraulic lift. Lift the front end high enough to put floor jacks under it and remove the sensors from underneath.
Yes this sounds like a simple question, which is exactly why it would be so easy to screw up. But there are people on this board who have a lot more experience than I do with working on these cars, both personnal and professional. I want to hear from people who make sure they don't drop their cars.
I'd also like to know about lifting points too while I'm here.
But I can do a search later.

I have a 2 ton hydraulic floor jack, which easily lifts up 1 corner of the car, but becomes a PITA to lift half the car up - it's just a bit too small. I also have 4 ton bottle jacks that easily lift up the entire front or rear of the car.
Look here for lift points:

Your car weighs between 3500 and 4000 lbs. Or just under 2 tons.
So a minimum size, for safety, would be a 3 ton jack and stands.
Most common would be 5 ton, as they are not much more expensive and give you a little added safety factor.
Also, DO NOT, buy the three leg jack stands, get the four leg style.
